Poem, “Who We Are”

Something in the bramble
Of who we are
Says, “leave.”
But, curling up
Against each other,
We choose, rather,
To curdle our venom
And false starts
Into slow amnesia,
Domestic chores
And tender rituals
Of coffee breaks,
The evening news,
And late-night snacks.
