Cindy, I totally agree that the post needed to be more concise. That was one of my earlier posts and I am catching on to what appears to be the typical "blog" reader---they are, IMO, quick readers and tend to surf through a lot of reading during the day...Your comments were very helpful...and they will help me in writing my future blog posts...thanks for taking the time to read...John

Good thoughts. I think you should consider re-writing this post, though, so it's more concise. I was tempted to share it but doubt people I refer to it would read it all the way through. I did mainly because I've been following you on Twitter for a while, have read some of your other posts, and have a keen interest in this particular topic, so I have extra patience.

If my comments aren't helpful, I apologize.

"to the least of these my brothers," a line that somehow gets lost on the conservatives, especially if the "least" is a Mexican illegal immigrant or the child of that immigrant, or someone on Medicaid. Somehow, the conservatives are embedded with the philosophy that only they deserve "entitlements" because only they have really worked for them.

You were very thoughtful to take time to respond. Thank you so much for that inspiring comment that Christ's ministry was to the "dispossessed and the powerless"....I've always been on that side of my heritage. And I am grateful, very grateful, to have been on that side. John

It's interesting to me that the most vocal followers of Jesus in American politics tend to be the least compassionate. And yet Jesus whole ministry was to the poor, the dispossessed and the powerless. He said, "In as much as you have done it to the least of these my brothers, you have done it unto me." Yet the Christian Right's response is to blame the poor for being poor while they send jobs overseas. It would appear that the principles that Jesus preached are not being taught much in churches.

Yes, I do believe that Christ was a revolutionary; he had no need for a sacred text, a church heirarchy, an embedded theology. He was the embodiment of spirituality at its core: the search for one's essential self without "societal norms"...

Thanks so much for your comments

Christ was a revolutionary. At the heart of his message was a willingness to live in rejection to societal norms. What happened to that spirit.

Hi John,

thanks for sharing your insights. That's very powerful.

The saying with the camel gave me a chuckle, who doesn't know it. I didn't know the one with the cold day in hell.

I was introspecting myself pretty deeply with regard to my money belief system. I'm sure that I am also influenced by religious stuff - however less obvious because I wasn't able to recall any self-limiting beliefs of religious origin or directly related to religion.

It's rather that I feel guilty when I start enjoying my successes. Chances are my ancestors defined themselves through hard work, compensation was secondary as long there was enough to survive and feed the kids.

I am naturally lazy but whatever I do with passion and strong desire, I work really hard. It has gotten better, but sometimes I punished myself with my workload and magically managed somehow to get rid of the money again so I had to keep working.

Seems I ingrained the bad parts of protestant work ethic and catholic guilt and sin conscience - even though I am not religious, but spiritual.

Or am I simply overdoing the good parts ?

I'm working on myself to mute out the demons, and I'm getting better and better at it.

Thanks again for sharing your insights.

Take care
