Thanks for your comment.

Yes, staying sharp at 60 is the key and to "partner" with the younger employees/employers.

If it's any consolation, I retired at 59 and just turned 70. I did "reinvent" myself by completing a novel, 3 on line ebooklets on recovery, 18 e-booklets, an online International Film and Culture Course, and am an active blogger. I am now, officially, a freelance writer and hope to stay in the "thick of it," as they.

I taught at a community college for 30 years and could have stayed with an incredibly high salary, had I remained. But my creativity was getting drained at the college; I needed to get out of the box. Initially, I really did not intend to become a writer, but, when my tax preparation person asked me what I wanted to put down on the form for my "occupation." I asked, "can I say freelance writer"?

Well, that's how it started.

In any event, I think we all get stagnant at the same job for too long. I am making about a third of what I made and still manage. My pension is not a state pension but a 401K. The market did a job on it and, truthfully, I was a bit profligate. But, I'm learning.

Keep in touch and good luck

This used-car-salesman-of-an-employee still hanging on at 60. Have not seen a raise in 3 years, but still am kept on at 52K at year. (in same company for 10 years) Every day could be my last. They key is to stay just as sharp as those young and bright ones, but remain in lockstep with their ideas, partner with them. I plan to ease out in a couple of years, now downsizing, and reinvent myself. Start a business. Hire ppl my age. It ain't til it's over.
